Joe Valdez

Software engineer, moonlighting as a drone builder.

About

I’m Joe, a software engineer at LegalShield, where I lead our customer service tooling.

Before tech, I spent six years in the Army as an infantry team leader. After I got out in 2018 I drove final-mile delivery for J.B. Hunt, then worked at Home Depot and NAPA while taking night classes. In 2019 I left to do Sabio’s coding bootcamp full-time, and KB Home hired me as a developer after I graduated that December. After that came Amazon, then LegalShield.

At LegalShield I started on checkout and payment forms. These days I mostly work on the tool our reps use to look up members, which means I spend as much time on the deploy pipeline, permissions and monitoring as on the React side of it.

Outside work I write drone software, and lately I’m building the drone too: a Holybro X500 that hasn’t flown yet.

Next I’d like a full-stack role where I work across the whole thing, from the UI down to how it’s deployed and how it runs in production. I’m in the LA area (San Gabriel Valley). Remote is my first choice, and I’m open to hybrid for the right team. I’d be especially happy somewhere in drones or agriculture, since drones are what I build for fun anyway.
